BIKING - whether with or without an engine.
In spring and late summer, the region blossoms into a cyclist´s heaven. The house by the lake serves as an ideal starting point for excursions, whether its the lakeside loop or expeditions into the woodlands and mountains.
It's also a great starting point for motorbike enthusiasts. Trips over the mountain passes into Slovenia´s famous Soca Valley or to the attractions of Italy's Friuli Region are highly recommended. The winding paradise of the Nockalm High Road and the Grossglockner are also worth a visit. If you prefer a more leisurely experience, taking a scenic drive through Eastern Carinthia and Styria is a great choice.
The host, who is also a motorcyclist, is happy to offer more detailed route suggestions.
FAMILY FUN
What to do in hot and sunny conditions? In the height of summer, its best not to do much. Go for a swim, have a nice barbecue, read a book, row on the lake and enjoy the cool water.
You can explore and discover the lake and its shores with the stand-up paddleboard or the rowboat. Enjoy the refreshing waters of Lake Ossiach and the leisurely atmosphere at the house's private lakeside dock.
The Affenberg near Villach offers a special experience for the whole family. After the great guided tour through the monkey enclosure, you have the opportunity to enjoy the well-known falconry show at Landskron Castle.
HIKING & EXCURSIONS
The Ossiacher Tauern, with their well-maintained trail network and charming inns, are just a short walk away from the house.
For nature enthusiasts, we suggest exploring the nearby Gerlitzen region or the national park in the Nockalm Mountains. Treat yourself to the finest views the area has to offer.
Explore nearby Villach with its abundant shopping opportunities, regardless of the weather conditions.
Culture enthusiasts and travel lovers will also get their money's worth. Whether its the renowned Gurk Abbey, the splendid Hochosterwitz Castle, or the attractions in nearby Friuli Region, there's something for everyone.
CULINARY EXPERIENCE
Those who love good food will be very pleased with the options.
We recommend taking a detour to Italy for dinner. The charming town of Tarvis can be reached in half an hour. There, you can also pick up some regional Italian delicacies.
The trout station - located further south by Lake Ossiach - spoils you with various delights from its own ponds, smoked salmon and fresh salads. Additional dining and shopping tips can be found in a booklet inside the house.
EVENTS
The well-known Villacher Kirchtag (Villach Fair) transforms the city of Villach into something truly special every summer. Take a spin on the Ferris wheel and savor a bowl of the traditional Kirchtag soup.
In mid-August, you also have the opportunity to visit the diverse arts and craft market in Ossiach. Local artists showcase their handmade pieces near the base of Lake Ossiach.
The old town market in Klagenfurt is also worth the 30-minute drive. Great bands, special shopping discounts, and culinary delights welcome you to Carinthia'S capital at the end of August.
